| Readout of Conservative Leader Erin O’Toole’s Call with Prime Minister Trudeau Today
August 24, 2020 This afternoon, Mr. O’Toole spoke with Prime Minister Trudeau over the phone. Mr. Trudeau congratulated Mr. O’Toole on becoming Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada. Mr. O’Toole thanked Mr. Trudeau and they had a cordial conversation about family and their commitment to public service. Mr. O’Toole made a point to raise western alienation and called on Mr. Trudeau to outline a plan to address real and serious national unity concerns in the Speech from the Throne. Mr. O’Toole also stressed the importance of parliamentary committees resuming as quickly as possible following the Speech from the Throne so that Members of Parliament can continue their investigations into the Trudeau WE Scandal and the many important studies, including the Special Committee on Canada-China Relations’ study of the situation in Hong Kong, that were suspended when the Liberals shut down Parliament.

THE HON. ERIN O'TOOLE, LEADER OF CANADA'S CONSERVATIVES |
| THE HON. ERIN O'TOOLE, LEADER OF CANADA'S CONSERVATIVES / L’HONORABLE ERIN O'TOOLE, CHEF DES CONSERVATEURS DU CANADA
SPEECH / DISCOURS
CHECK AGAINST DELIVERY / LA VERSION PRONONCÉE FAIT FOI
What an honour. Thank you so much.
Thank you to my friends - Leslyn Lewis, Derek Sloan, and of course to the Honourable Peter MacKay.
Thank you for stepping up for our country. Congratulations for the campaigns you have run, for the ideas you have put forward, and for the Canadians you have recruited to our cause.
Thank you for putting your name on the ballot. For leaving your families for weeks to travel all over this great country – whether on the ground or in a room of your house on hours of Zoom calls.
Thank you for talking to Canadians about our country, our party and ideas for a stronger future.
Thank you for valuing the grassroots members of our movement.
I want to thank my incredible campaign team from coast to coast to coast! We have built an incredible team of passionate and patriotic Canadians. Your hard work led to this victory.
I also want to thank the volunteers for Peter, Leslyn and Derek. You worked incredibly hard and I look forward to all of us working together to build a stronger country with more opportunity for our children and grandchildren.
I would also like to thank Andrew and Jill Scheer and your family for your service and dedication to our party and our country. We will continue to work together for Canadians. And of course I want to thank my wife, Rebecca, our children Mollie and Jack and all of my family and friends here tonight or watching at home for your love, advice and patience these nine months.
Most of all, thank you to the tens of thousands of Canadians from coast to coast to coast who voted for me.
You put your faith in me to lead this historic party and I am honoured and humbled. I promise you, I will not let you down.
Today, you have given me a clear mission: To unite our party. To champion our conservative principles. To show Canadians what we know so well – that Justin Trudeau and his team are failing our great country. We must continue to point out Liberal failings and corruption BUT we also must show Canadians our vision for a stronger, prosperous and more united Canada. Canada can - and must - do better and Conservatives will work hard to earn the trust and confidence of Canadians in the next election.
Friends, now the real work begins. We could be into an election campaign as soon as this fall. But as more than 260,000 passionate Conservatives have already shown in this record breaking leadership amidst a pandemic - the Conservative Party will be ready for the next election. And we will win the next election.
To the millions of Canadians that I am meeting tonight for the first time...
Hello, I’m Erin O’Toole....
You are going to be seeing and hearing a lot from me in the coming weeks. I want you to know that I am here to fight for you and your families.
Like millions of Canadians, Rebecca and I have been juggling a lot of jobs lately. With our kids at home, COVID has made us appreciate teachers more than ever before.
My mother, who passed away when I was 9, was a teacher. And, throughout my life, I have wished she was here to give me advice. Right now, I wish she were here to see her child succeed. But, I know she is here tonight because I can see her in my daughter who shares her name.
Thankfully, I have had my stepmother - also a teacher - to guide me to this very day. I am thankful she and my Dad are here with me tonight. My father John, inspired me into public service.
But like many teenagers, especially those who have lost a parent, I gave my dad a hard time growing up. He worked at General Motors for over 30 years, which brought us from Ste. Therese QC to Bowmanville, Ontario – to my home in the Toronto area.
After high school I joined the military to gain discipline and to serve the country. It deepened my love for Canada and defines who I am today.
I served as a navigator on Sea King helicopters and sailed with our Navy out of Halifax. It was in Halifax where I met Rebecca, the love of my life.
Today, Rebecca and I are both navigating raising our amazing children Mollie and Jack - and 5 days ago we celebrated 20 years of marriage...
I have spent my entire adult life trying to serve Canada and its people. Soon, I will be asking Canadians for the chance to serve as Prime Minister so we can get our country back on track. I love this country and I am very worried about the course we are on.
When I launched my campaign in Calgary in January, I said that the stakes were high.
They are even higher today.
Our country is currently facing its most serious economic challenges since the Great Depression. Capital and jobs have been leaving Canada and large deficits were being run BEFORE the COVID crisis led to record debt and deficits.
Our country is more divided than it has ever been in my lifetime. People are losing faith in Canada because of the ideological and out of touch policies from the Liberals.
We just emerged from the largest health crisis in our history.
Premiers across our country have shown real leadership amid the COVID-19 crisis. They were looking out for you. Justin Trudeau, Bill Morneau and the Liberals showed - once again - that even amid a national crisis - they were more interested in looking after their friends. We can rebuild our great country - while protecting Canadians from the ongoing threat of COVID-19.
We can get Canadians back to work, be proud of the things we grow, build and produce in Canada again. We must have a government that will keep us safe, and ensure that we are never ill-prepared again.
To do that, we need a leader with real-world experience and someone who is not afraid to make the tough decisions.
A leader who cares more about keeping Canadians safe and united than about his personal image and the interests of his friends.
We need a leader who puts Canadians first and will stand up for Canada and our interests in a challenging world where we have lost the respect of our friends and allies
The world still needs more Canada, it just needs less Justin Trudeau.
Why should I be that leader?
Because I believe that: Whether you are black, white, brown or from any race or creed. Whether you are LGBT or straight. Whether you are an Indigenous Canadian or have joined the Canadian family 5 weeks ago or 5 generations ago. Whether you are doing well, or barely getting by. Whether you worship on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, or not at all. You are an important part of Canada and you have a home in the Conservative Party of Canada!
Maybe you have voted for a different party your whole life, or have never voted at all. Maybe you feel that as a union member you should not vote for our party. Maybe you feel let down by politicians. Maybe your family came here for “better” but you are still waiting for “fair” treatment. Maybe you run a small business and work all day only to be called a tax cheat by your government.
It is time for many Liberal and NDP voters to socially distance themselves from these out of touch parties.
Its time for more Canadians to look at the Conservative Party again.
If you want the opportunity to work hard to provide for your family - you should be voting Conservative.
If you want to stop insiders getting ahead while you are falling back - you should be voting Conservative.
If you are proud of what we produce in this country - whether it is the resources in the ground or the ideas in our heads - you should be voting Conservative.
And if you believe deeply - like I do - that the Canadian Ethics Commissioner needs to stop working overtime - you should be voting Conservative!
Justin Trudeau and Jagmeet Singh claim to stand up for working families, but they fail them time and time again.
Canada needs serious leadership for these challenging times.
To keep Canadians safe and prepared for the future.
To rebuild our economy.
To navigate our way out of record Liberal deficits before they put our social programs at risk.
To ensure that we rebuild stronger, more self-reliant, and more resilient, so we are better prepared for future waves of COVID-19 and other threats.
To restore Canada’s place in a tough world, earning back the respect that Trudeau has lost on the world stage.
That is what Conservatives stand for.
Doing what is right even when it is not what is easy.
That is what Canadians stand for.
Its the same sense of duty that kept our healthcare workers and PSWs helping our sick in the early weeks of the pandemic when they were worried about risks to themselves and their families.
That same feeling when a family helps newcomers to Canada by opening up their own home and letting them get their start with help from family or friends in their community even when it makes things challenging.
That same feeling our soldiers must have felt at the bottom of Vimy Ridge more than a century ago.
It’s a belief in what Canada can be.
It’s a belief in the hope and opportunity that Canada represents.
My fellow Canadians.
My name is Erin O’Toole.
I believe in this country and I am running to serve you as Prime Minister.
Thank you, good night!

Conservative Statement on CERB Transition to EI and New Benefits |
| Conservative Statement on CERB Transition to EI and New Benefits
August 20, 2020 OTTAWA, ON — Today, Dan Albas, Shadow Minister for Employment, Workforce Development and Disability Inclusion, and Pierre Poilievre, Shadow Minister for Finance, issued the following statement regarding the Trudeau government’s intention to transition Canadians from the Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB) to Employment Insurance (EI) and create three new benefits: “Today’s announcement makes it clear that Justin Trudeau has no plan to help Canadians get back to work or to restart our economy. Shuffling Canadians between programs is not a plan. “It is unacceptable that the Trudeau government announced these changes days after locking out MPs and shutting down Parliament, to block investigations into their WE Scandal. Canadians have serious questions about this transition and how it will affect them. They deserve transparency and clear answers. “Throughout the pandemic, Conservatives have been focused on helping Canadians. We have proposed constructive solutions, like the Back to Work Bonus, a CERB top-up which would ensure workers have the support they need to transition back into the workforce and ensure that local businesses are able to fill shifts and get back on their feet. Unfortunately, the Liberals waited for months before they realized this idea would help Canadians and the economy. “Millions of Canadians are still unemployed and eager to return to work. Businesses want to reopen and welcome back staff and customers. But instead of fixing their programs and outlining a plan to restart our economy, the Trudeau Liberals continue to let Canadians down. “Justin Trudeau has been wrong or slow to act throughout this pandemic, and his failure has cost Canadians. This includes the Liberals’ refusal to fix the EI system for new and expecting parents, which they could have made months ago. As a result, Canadians are rightly concerned about falling through the cracks during this transition. “Conservatives will continue to hold the Trudeau Liberals’ to account and to fight for the answers and support that Canadians deserve. We know that our economic recovery will be driven by Canadians’ hard work, innovation, and entrepreneurial spirit.” For more information contact: Office of Dan Albas, MP Hannah.Hodson.805@parl.gc.ca (613) 995-1702 Office of Pierre Poilievre, MP Pierre.Poilievre.A2@parl.gc.ca 613-290-4140 |

Andrew Scheer Statement on Trudeau Walking Out on Canadians |
| Andrew Scheer Statement on Trudeau Walking Out on Canadians
August 18, 2020 OTTAWA – The Honourable Andrew Scheer, Leader of Canada’s Conservatives and of the Official Opposition, issued the following statement following reports that the Trudeau Liberals’ intend to prorogue Parliament until October: “Earlier this year, Justin Trudeau shamefully shut down Parliament to try and avoid accountability. Now he has locked out Opposition MPs who were working hard to fix his government’s pandemic programs, help Canadians and get to the bottom of his corruption scandal. “Justin Trudeau is walking out on Canadians in the middle of a major health and economic crisis, in a disgusting attempt to make Canadians forget about his corruption. “At a time when Canadians are looking for stability and leadership, Justin Trudeau has given them corruption, chaos, and cover-ups. “Canadians have serious questions about the Trudeau WE Scandal. They deserve better than a spineless Prime Minister who uses the power of his office to shut down multiple investigations into his decision to hand $900 million of your tax dollars to his friends at WE. “Hiding out for two months won’t solve the Liberals’ ethical problems. As long as Justin Trudeau is Prime Minister, the corruption will continue. “Conservatives will continue to hold Justin Trudeau and his government accountable and we will keep fighting for the answers that Canadians deserve.” For more information: Denise Siele Denise.Siele@parl.gc.ca (613) 286-1050 Josée Morissette Josee.Morissette@parl.gc.ca (613) 292-0955 |

| MP Rempel Garner Calls for Briefing on Amazon’s Alleged Anti-Competitive Behaviour
August 14, 2020
OTTAWA, ON – The Hon. Michelle Rempel Garner, Shadow Minister for Industry and Economic Development, issued the following statement after giving notice on a motion to study the reports of anti-competitive behaviour by Amazon:
“The Competition Bureau has launched an investigation into Amazon.ca over concerns that they are engaging in anti-competitive behaviour. Today, I introduced a motion to question Amazon on these very serious allegations during our meeting at the Standing Committee on Industry, Science, and Technology. As parliamentarians, it is our job to get information on these issues for Canadians.
“While the NDP was attempting to move that the committee adopt my motion today unanimously, a Liberal member of the Committee blocked him from doing so. I thank my NDP colleague Brian Masse for his public indication of support.
“This is a non-partisan issue which could be impacting small business owners in Canada. I encourage the Liberals to support this motion, which we expect to pass with the support of the Opposition members on the committee.
“Conservatives will continue to fight for small businesses and demand answers on this issue. It is our job as parliamentarians to do this important work”

City of Toronto Update on COVID-19 |
| August 10, 2020
City of Toronto update on COVID-19 and Stage 3 reopening
The City of Toronto continues to respond to COVID-19 and has entered the second week of Stage 3 of the Province of Ontario’s reopening plan.
As of today, the City’s Emergency Operations Centre has been mobilized for 153 days, working with Toronto Public Health and other City divisions to slow the spread of the virus, keep the community safe and help the city recover and rebuild.
There are 15,532 cases of COVID-19 in the city, an increase of 18 today. There are 69 people hospitalized. In total, 14,108 people have recovered from COVID-19, an increase of 14 since yesterday. To date, there have been 1,163 COVID-19 deaths in Toronto. For the first time today, all of Toronto Public Health’s COVID-19 Monitoring Dashboard indicators are green indicating they meet the established goal. This good news is the result of the collaborative hard work of many health system partners. Toronto Public Health continues to closely monitor local COVID-19 data and reminds residents to remain vigilant and keep following public health measures required to limit opportunities for virus spread. COVID-19 case status data can be found on the City’s reporting platform: http://www.toronto.ca/home/covid-19/covid-19-latest-city-of-toronto-news/ covid-19-status-of-cases-in-toronto/.
Stage 3 has allowed for the safe restart of more businesses, City services and expanded indoor and outdoor gatherings. Some highlights from Toronto’s Stage 3 reopening include:
• More than 800 playgrounds and play structures reopened since July 31 • Toronto Public Library continuing to add in-branch services this week with relevant health and safety measures in place including the use of computers in many branches and the ability to pick up material holds without an appointment, in addition to the scheduled pick-up of holds • First-ever WiFi on Wheels pilot last week provided free WiFi and internet access in two public parks • Thousands of restaurants and bars have reopened for dine-in services with a number of additional safety requirements as implemented through temporary provisions under the Toronto Municipal Code, Chapter 545, Licensing • Applications to the CaféTO program, providing increased dining capacity through patio space, has been extended to tomorrow, Tuesday August 11 at 12 p.m. CaféTO will run until November 15 and has supported more than 600 restaurants city-wide • The City’s first three DriveInTO events have been sold out, and more than 1000 people have participated to date • New temporary bylaw that requires masks or face coverings to be worn in common areas in apartments and condominiums has come into effect • The City has reopened 21 Toronto Early Learning & Child Care Centres, with the remaining locations expected to be reopened by the end of September • There have been more than 17,600 registrations to CampTO and nearly 3,500 participants took part in the first week of ParksPlayTO
As COVID-19 continues to circulate in the community, residents are reminded to continue adhering to Toronto Public Health’s advice to practise physical distancing, stay within their social circle of no more than 10 people, wash hands often and wear a mask or face covering where mandatory or when physical distancing cannot be maintained. Wearing a mask or face covering is required in indoor public spaces in Toronto.
Provincial orders under the Reopening Ontario (A Flexible Response to COVID-19) Act and the City bylaw on physical distancing remain in effect. Yesterday, the City received 35 complaints related to parks use and physical distancing. Officers have cautioned nearly 2,261 people this month about physical distancing, alcohol, bonfires and littering bylaws.
As more of the city’s businesses continue to reopen, residents can learn about what to expect and what is required as Toronto moves into the new normal and they begin to visit more establishments and take part in more activities at https://www.toronto.ca/ReopenTO. Safe reopening guidelines for businesses and organizations are also available at http://www.toronto.ca/Reopening.
The City’s website is updated daily with the latest health advice and information about City services, social supports and economic recovery measures. Check http://www.toronto.ca/covid-19/ for answers to common questions before contacting the Toronto Public Health COVID-19 Hotline or 311.

| Conservatives call for emergency meeting of the Official Languages Committee August 10,2020
Ottawa – Following recent revelations regarding the awarding of the contract to administer the Canada Student Service Grant (CSSG) to a unilingual anglophone organization, WE Charity, Conservatives members of the Standing Committee on Official Languages have called for an emergency meeting to shed light on this matter. MPs Chris d’Entremont, Joël Godin, Bernard Généreux and Michael Chong sent a letter to the Chair of the Official Languages Committee requesting the emergency meeting. At the meeting, Conservative MPs intend the put forward the following motion: That the Committee undertake a study of the government’s decision to select a unilingual anglophone organization, with no presence in Quebec, to administer the Canada Student Service Grant; That the Minister of Economic Development and Official Languages, Mélanie Joly, be invited to appear for at least two hours; That other witnesses include, but are not limited to: a) The Minister of Diversity and Inclusion and Youth, Bardish Chagger; b) NATIONAL Public Relations; c) WE Charity; d) The Commissioner of Official Languages, Raymond Théberge. “The CSSG must be available to students across the country, including in Quebec and minority francophone communities outside Quebec,” said MP d’Entremont. “It is absolutely unacceptable that Trudeau government tried to infringe on the language rights of Francophones in Canada.” The full letter can be read here.

Open Letter from Conservatives to the Elections Commissioner |
| Open Letter from Conservatives to the Elections Commissioner August 7, 2020
Ottawa, ON – Michael Barrett, Conservative Shadow Minister for Ethics, and Pierre Poilievre, Conservative Shadow Minister for Finance, have sent a letter to the Elections Commissioner regarding Justin Trudeau’s $900 million scandal and the close ties between the Prime Minister, WE Charity, and the Liberal Party of Canada. Over the past number of weeks, there have been allegations of data sharing between the Liberal Party and the WE organization, reports that WE staff were told to attend partisan Liberal Party events, and the unearthing of a video produced in 2017 by the WE organization featuring and promoting Justin Trudeau. The Canada Elections Act strictly prohibits the making of contributions, whether monetary or ‘in-kind,’ by incorporated entities. “While the video, potential data-sharing, and political event crowd-filling each represent a worth and benefit differing in nature and value, I respectfully contend that these collectively present a picture of non-monetary contributions in aid of the Liberal Party and its leading figures,” said MP Barrett. “Given the torrent of disclosures and revelations in recent days and weeks, it may be that this is simply scratching the surface of the organizations’ ties and is the ‘tip of the iceberg’ in terms of support given to the Liberal cause.” “The links between WE Charity and Liberal politicians raise the question about whether the party or its candidates have benefited from the charity,” said MP Poilievre. “The Commissioner of Canada Elections must examine all these links and determine if anyone crossed the line." You can view the original letter here.

Conservative Statement on US Aluminum Tariffs |
| Conservative Statement on US Aluminum Tariffs
August 6, 2020 OTTAWA – Randy Hoback, Shadow Minister for International Trade, Leona Alleslev, Shadow Minister for Foreign Affairs, Colin Carrie, Shadow Minister for Canada-U.S. Relations, and Richard Martel, Member of Parliament for Chicoutimi—Le Fjord, released the following statement today regarding the aluminum tariffs the United States plans to impose on Canada:
“Justin Trudeau has once again let down Canada’s aluminum workers. The US administration has been foreshadowing new tariffs on Canadian aluminum for weeks, so why didn’t the Trudeau government take action to protect Canadian workers?
“The Trudeau government must immediately retaliate and send a clear message to the U.S. that we will not restrict our exports.
“Unfortunately, the Trudeau government has put Canada in a weaker position to combat these tariffs, after the concessions they made during the last round of American trade action. Canada can only retaliate on like products, putting our country at a strategic disadvantage.
“Conservatives do not have confidence in this Liberal government's ability to defend our aluminum industry. Not only did the Trudeau Liberals fail to negotiate the same favourable rules of origin for aluminum, as they did for steel in the Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement, they have failed to follow through on their promise to send all of the money collected from the previous US tariffs back to the Canadian industry.
“The aluminum sector is vital to the Canadian economy. It’s essential that this industry thrive, especially during COVID-19. Conservatives will continue to fight for Canada’s aluminum industry and the thousands of workers it employs.” For more information: Office of Randy Hoback, MP Randy.Hoback.A2@parl.gc.ca 613-277-8508
